Brrrrr! It’s been a cold week here in Reception! The children have loved developing their observational skills when exploring the frost and ice in the outdoor area this week! They worked collaboratively with friends to discover ways to break the ice, and observe how the ice changes throughout the day.

On Monday, the children arrived to find a giant silver star had appeared in their classroom! Lots of questioning language was used by the children – where did it come from? What did it mean? Was it anything to do with Christmas? The children quickly realised that the star was just like the star which appeared in the night sky to lead the three wise men to Jesus. We then discussed how some Christmas trees also have a star on top, and its meaning within the Nativity story.

What a fun-packed day we had at Imagine That! We played dress up, experimented with wind, magnets and water, and enjoyed a packed lunch with friends! From giant bubbles to snowman slime the children had such a magical experience and we couldn’t be prouder of them for their exceptional behaviour.

In maths, the children were introduced to number 10 this week, and had lots of experience with subitising (seeing the quantity without counting). Next week, the children will begin to explore verbal counting to larger numbers. Counting together to numbers beyond 20 will begin to expose the pattern of number names beyond the tricky ‘teen’ numbers. Any counting practice at home will really benefit your child in preparation for this next step.

Have a brilliant, frosty weekend everyone. The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
