Year 5 Blog 6.6.25

Date: 6th Jun 2025 @ 3:11pm

Well, that was a quick week, but we still managed to cram an awful lot of learning into the three days!

The children all returned ready for their final half term in Y5. That 5/6 of the year done – 83% of the year!

In English, we have been working hard to complete our build up writing on plastic pollution. The children have been thoroughly immersed in the topic and have now begun their ‘Big Write’ persuasive speech which they will be presenting to their peers next week.

In maths, we are now learning about units of measure and have looked at how to convert mm to cm, m to cm and vice versa.

In PE, 5W had their final dodgeball sessions and I have to commend them for their teamwork, honesty and respect that they have shown during this unit of work.

5H, completed their yoga sessions and have worked hard to master their poses and breathing techniques.

In our games lesson, we have begun our new unit – cricket. The children have been practising their throwing and catching skills and are learning how to play diamond cricket, which requires great team work.

Next week, we begin our orienteering lessons, so maps at the ready!

During RE we have continued to learn about how Muslims follow the 5 Pillars of Islam and focussed on Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr.

Finally, the children enjoyed learning about our little fury friends, the Red Squirrels during guided reading. We will be heading out to the Pinewoods in a couple of weeks as part of our visit to Church and hopefully will be able to spot one or two!

Enjoy your weekend and let’s hope the weather forecast isn’t accurate!!!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
