Year 5 Blog 26.09.25

Date: 25th Sep 2025 @ 4:11pm

And so we come to the end of another great week.

In English, the children planned and wrote their own ‘annoying' animal themed poem following the ABAB rhyming pattern. They have used a range of year 5 devices to support their writing and have produced some lovely work.

During PSHE, the children learnt about what it takes to be a good friend and how our ideal friend would interact with us.

In guided reading we further extended our Maya knowledge and learnt all about the ancient Maya game of Pokatok. The children were quite shocked at what happened to the losing team’s captain!

For Mathematics the children partitioned numbers up to 1,000,000 getting to grips with part whole models, number lines and Gattegno charts.

In computing, we continued our unit on ‘systems and searching’ and the children were introduced to a variety of search engines and investigated what results each one would generate. They also learnt how to narrow a search down to key words to ensure that the correct search results.

In topic, we looked at different maps of Chichen Itza (spotting similarities and differences) and then examined important features and their significance to daily life.

Art has seen us continue with Typography, looking at a number of different fonts used on computers and having a go at creating their own.

Next week we are excited to have our Maya day on Wednesday with a range of activities organized by a Mayan visitor.

We hope you have a restful and enjoyable weekend!

From the Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
