Year 5 Blog 12/9

Date: 12th Sep 2025 @ 4:00pm

The first full week of year 5. What a wonderful opening week!

In English we started our ‘write stuff’ writing topic looking at rhyming poetry and have begun to use some literary devices to make our writing year 5 worthy.

In guided reading we again extended our Maya knowledge and learnt all about the Mayan creation story.

Maths has seen us move away from Roman numerals and on to place value, looking at numbers up to 1,000,000.

In computing, we started our unit on ‘systems and searching’ and learnt about the systems involved with Amazons lock boxes. Focussed on the number of steps that are needed in the system to get that image from your Amazon product page, into the lockbox.

PE has continued with our dodgeball, highlighting the importance of quick feet in a game and having a target practice game against another team. Their rugby passing skills are also coming along nicely as well as their leading with deception, to outpace a defender.

Latin has progressed on to translating sentences and expanding our vocabulary with extra verbs.

For Art we have begun our work on Typography, creating shapes from card then arranging the shapes to spell words. The results from the children have been wonderful and creative.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and come back refreshed for another exciting week.

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
