Year 2 weekly blog 13.9.24

Date: 13th Sep 2024 @ 5:54am

We have had a wonderful first full week in year 2. The children have settled in beautifully and are showing increasing independence when it comes to our classroom routines.

In Geography this week we began looking at maps and the children made their own map of the classroom with a key. We also looked at a map of the United Kingdom and labelled key points such as the different countries, oceans, capital cities and of course Liverpool and Southport.

In Computing, the children explored information technology and its uses. They were able to sort classroom objects into information technology or not information technology. The children were very intrigued by a USB stick!

The children got creative in Art this week on a walk around school looking for natural objects they could use to make a collage, from sticks and leaves to acorns and pebbles. The children then brought them back to the classroom to explore the composition and arrangements on paper and table tops to create something new.

In RE we are studying Judaism this term and we began by discussing items that are precious to us which will lead into looking at what items are precious to Jewish people. A lot of children named their soft toys, special keepsakes and baby books, it was lovely to share this afternoon with the children learning about what's special to them.

During gymnastics the children focused on travelling in a zag zig, rolling and balancing. They used mats and benches to form a short routine of a travel, jump, roll and balance.

In English we have continued looking at our story The Lion in Paris and we finished on Friday with an experience day on the Paris metro! The children have really been impressing us with the length they can write already!

Thank you to those who were able to make the welcome meetings, it was lovely to put names to faces. If you weren't able to attend, please do not worry the information booklet and PowerPoint will be uploaded on the Year 2 page.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
