Happy Friday, everyone!

Another jam-packed week in Reception!

On Monday, we kicked off the week by introducing our two brand-new Experts of the Week. Scarlett and April enjoyed sharing their interests with their friends. We had a Gruffalo experience, as well as learning more about The Cotswolds and swimming.

We also introduced number 9 this week. The children have worked hard consolidating their number bonds and finding all the different ways we can see and make nine using the numbers we have met so far. The children enjoyed sorting Numberblocks into ‘square’ and ‘not square’ and became confident using 10 frames to show 9 with different coloured counters.

On Tuesday, we learnt about Joseph, Moses and Noah and how they were all very brave. We thought the children would love to meet Resilient Robert, so we introduced him on Tuesday. The children learnt that Resilient Robert never gives up—he keeps trying when things get tricky, tries again, and learns from his mistakes.

On Wednesday, the children enjoyed learning about the stages of swimming and watching an amazing clip of Paralympic swimmer Ellie, who taught the children all about the different swimming strokes. We looked more closely at what each stage requires before moving on to the next. The children also enjoyed crafting, making pom-poms, Gruffalo masks and painting using forks.

On Thursday, the children explored colour mixing and floating and sinking. They were very interested in learning what makes things float and what makes things sink. We had a crafty afternoon making our own boats and sailing them on water—we even used straws to blow the boats along!

On Friday, we rounded up our learning about number 9 by working with our perfect partners to make 9 using Unifix cubes, splitting them into 2 and 3 parts. We continued learning about woodland habitats, discussing the animals we might see, and talking about jobs and what the children might like to be when they grow up.

We can’t wait to meet two new experts next week and learn more about what interests them, as well as exploring how we can measure height, length and time.

Please continue to share your good news with us—no matter how big or small—by emailing [email protected] We love to share it!

Don’t forget that the children have their next set of green words in their reading folders today. Please slice them up and practise as often as you can.

Have a great weekend,
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
