A train-tastic week!

This week, we hopped aboard for a week full of train-tastic learning to celebrate our focus children’s special interests. We had a deliciously delightful start to the week as we enjoyed marmalade toast whilst listening to the fabulous rhyming story ‘It’s a Marmalade Jam!’ - a wonderfully laugh-aloud story where different vehicles become caught up in a sticky situation!

We also explored how trains have changed over the years and looked at their diverse roles in transporting various cargo. To continue developing those vital communication and language skills, Reception were encouraged to share their own experiences of travelling on a train. We were so impressed as we overheard fantastic descriptive language as the children were articulating their thoughts while trying hard to demonstrate attentive listening skills. Well done, Reception!

On Tuesday, Reception observed St. George's Day with a day of commemoration and learning. We talked about the significance of St. George, the patron saint of England, through stories and discussions, and had a go at making our very own St. George’s Day flags! This week’s star bakers even created themed biscuits to honour the special occasion.

On Wednesday, we were incredibly fortunate to be blessed with sunny weather as we walked to St. Luke’s Church. It was a perfect day for exploring with Rev. Matt, who shared with Reception some of the hidden historical treasures nestled within the church and its grounds.

In our Read, Write, Inc. phonics sessions, Reception are continuing to practice reading sounds speedily, in order to confidently ‘decode’ words. We absolutely love celebrating your child’s progress at school and want to provide the opportunity for your child to showcase their super phonic skills at home. Each week, on the blog, we will be signposting links to: Speed Minute films, Red Word films, and ‘Special Friends, Fred Talk’ films.

Please set aside 10 minutes to watch a film with your child at least three times a week, and praise your child as they join in with the lesson. Your support really matters:

Next week, we look forward to creating our own mini-festival as we celebrate more wonderfully, unique interests of our Reception superstars.

Have a brilliant weekend, everybody.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
