Year 2 Weekly Blog (12. 11. 21)

Date: 9th Nov 2021 @ 12:18pm

We have had another fantastic week in school learning all about another celebration from around the world.

This week, the children have learned about the Hindu celebration of Diwali.  They have learned all about the story of Rama and Sita and learned how people celebrate Diwali with lots of delicious food, lighting candles and fireworks and creating colourful rangoli patterns to decorate their homes.  Inspired by this celebration, the children have carefully followed instructions to make Diwali-inspired elephants using milk bottles - they are so colourful and all unique!  They have also created a variety of Rangoli style artworks: carefully colouring in patterns and adding sparkly colourful glitter, and also created their own patterns using PurpleMash; like last week when the children created firework display pictures using 2Paint, they have all really enjoyed using this software to create their own unique Rangoli design.

On Thursday, we all attended the Year 6 Remembrance Service in the school hall.  We were so impressed with how mature the children in Year 2 observed the silence and how they listened really carefully to the assembly which was beautifully presented by the Year 6 children - well done Year 6!  In the afternoon, the children were told which parts they would be playing in the Nativity play - they were very excited and cannot wait to get started practising the play!

Enjoy your weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
