Y2 Weekly Blog (10. 9. 21)

Date: 9th Sep 2021 @ 1:45pm

Wow, what a great week we have had together in Year 2!

The children have started to think about their first topic of the year: 'Homes'.  The children have learned all about different types of homes - detached, semi-detached, terraced, cottages, flats and apartments and how they have been built and how they are different!  The children also listened to a story called 'Harry's Home' which is all about the difference between homes in the city and homes in the countryside.  On Thursday, the children conducted an investigation to see which type of house is the most common; they will use this information next week when they create pictograms using Purple Mash.

On Monday, the children listened to a piece of music called 'No Place Like Home' (which you can hear via the BBC website) and thought all about the different sounds we hear on a daily basis in our home and at our school; the children became 'sound detectives', listening to footsteps down the corridor, Year 1 in the hall, the rustling of leaves outside, and distant cars driving past the school.

In maths, the children have used diennes and tens/ones frames to think about two digit numbers, and how they can use diennes to represent tens and ones for different numbers; they have also started to think about how they can compare different numbers using different mathematical symbols (greater than, less than, equal to).  Mrs Groom and Miss McGarvey have been very impressed with how all the children have got back into the swing of things with their learning, and in particular how hard they are all working in their maths lessons!

In P.E., the children enjoyed the sunshine on Wednesday afternoon during their first outdoor lesson of the year: football!  The children practised passing and dribbling in small groups and really impressed all of the adults with how sensibly they worked together in little teams.  On Thursday's indoor P.E. lesson the children used the sporthall athletics equipment to complete a carousel of activites and had a great time practising their throwing, aiming, bouncing and balancing skills.

During the week, the children have also returned to whole school assemblies in the school hall for the first time in almost two years!  It was particularly lovely to hear the children taking part in singing worship on Tuesday.

Enjoy the weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

Please note that the children should come home today with their new Home Learning books.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
