Reception Weekly Blog 7.1.22

Date: 7th Jan 2022 @ 4:06pm

What a fabulous first week back to school we have had!

This week we have explored the first of our traditional tales 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears'. We have really enjoyed discussing why Goldilocks ate baby bears porridge, broke his chair and slept in his bed! Luckily the reception children were on hand to build Baby Bear a brand new chair using the large blocks in their classrooms. Lots of fantastic ideas were shared as we all worked together as a team. We have been so impressed with how well the children can retell the story using lots of expression!

We have introduced a new concept of 'subitising' to the children, where we use our counting eyes to instantly recognise how many objects there are in a small group. You can play lots of subitising games at home using dice or by hiding objects under a cloth - reveal and ask how many can you see? Have a look at this video for a simple definition of subitising: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwt7NgfeZRY

This week we added porridge oats to our funky fingers tuff tray which the children loved! We are not sure if there were more porridge oats on the carpet than in the tuff tray at the end of the day however the children had lots of fun scooping and pouring Mother, Father and Bear's breakfast.

We are so excited to see what next week has in store for us! Have a great weekend everybody!

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
