Reception Weekly Blog 5.11.21

Date: 5th Nov 2021 @ 3:23pm

Welcome back, Reception!

It has been fantastic to welcome everybody back after a well-earned half term break. The children came back incredibly well remembering our school expectations.

We have hit the ground running this week, we introduced number 4 on Monday – the children have really enjoyed learning about all things 4. Exploring the features of squares and rectangles lead us to create some of the most amazing firework rockets to celebrate ‘Bonfire Night’. The children were able to name lots of 2D shapes they used. We would love to hear about what shapes you can find over the weekend, email us at reception@slf.sefton.school or write it on a good news slip.

Something extra special happened on Tuesday, just as we were learning all about fire safety and how to keep safe if we find a fire… a fire engine arrived at school! With huge thanks to Merseyside Fire and Rescue for helping us organise such an exciting visit, the children loved listening to the fire fighters and we all got a go on the hose that is used to put out real fires. We had so much fun and Mrs. P had even more fun when she was able to wear one of the uniforms!! Take a look at the photos we have attached below.

We have really enjoyed talking about the festival of light this week, also known as ‘Diwali’. The children have learned all about this festival and created their very own diva lamp to help celebrate the start of the festival and create gorgeous rangoli patterns in the pencil station.

As we come to the end of learning our single letters, it is vital that we have speedy recall of those sounds, follow this link if you would like to purchase the set 1 sounds, they are really valuable. Next week, we will begin teaching our ‘special friends’, two letters that make one sound.

This week we have been creating beautiful firework displays with paintn using four colours and glitter, we have spoken lots about the importance of staying with our grown-ups, wearing safe clothing and taking care if we are going out and about this evening to enjoy the displays. With this said, have a brilliant weekend and please stay safe. We can’t wait to see you on Monday.

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
