A wonderful end to a busy half term!

On Monday, the children were intrigued when they arrived into the classroom after lunch to a box full of clues all about The Queen, we explored all The Queen’s favourite things, including her favourite dog; a Corgi and one of her favourite sandwiches; jam sandwiches! The children were delighted that Her Majesty loves such a yummy treat. This inspired us to make our own sandwiches, we started by writing our own instructions, it was fantastic to see so many children give independent writing a go, pinching the sounds they needed for words on their ‘Fred Fingers’.

On Tuesday, we had a ‘royally’ wonderful afternoon learning about The Platinum Jubilee, each child has been busily gluing and designing their very own crown to turn into the little king or queen they are. We have enjoyed creating lots of different designs and hunting for crown jewels in our sand tray.

We blew the socks off our PE teacher Mr. Smith on Wednesday by showing him how well we work as part of a team. Each rainbow row took part in a bat and beanbag race in preparation for Sport’s Day.

Thursday meant it was time for our Royal Tea Party! The children began the day making their jam sandwiches by following their own instructions. We enjoyed decorating the classroom in the afternoon in red, white and blue. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at our tea party, the children proudly wore their bespoke crowns and listening to royal music before settling down and reading the first few pages of the commemorative platinum jubilee book which every child brought home this week.

We ended our week on a high, spending time with our lovely Y4 buddies, they showed us their fantastic nests made in their most recent art project and amazed us with their fun facts about endangered animals and what we can do to help the remaining animals. They have been great this year teaching us how to make the right choices.

As our topic of growing and castles draws to an end the children will have brought home their very own pea plant they been lovingly caring for over the last few weeks. We would love to see the children’s pea plant progress once it has settled into your home. It also meant it was time for our tadpoles to be transported to their new home, they have settled in well and are currently loving spinach leaves and we look forward to keeping the children updated with their progress.

We can’t wait to start our topic ‘Mad About Minibeasts’ when we come back in June. Have a lovely half term holiday and enjoy your Platinum Jubilee celebrations, we look forward to hearing all about it from the children, on our return.

Take care,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
