Reception Weekly Blog 1.7.2022

Date: 1st Jul 2022 @ 3:52pm

Another busy week here at Reception!

This week, the children have continued to enjoy learning and exploring through our topic ‘Mad about Minibeasts!’ We have been carefully observing the butterfly life cycle, as one of our ten caterpillars have now emerged through its chrysalis and is beginning to spread its beautiful butterfly wings. We are all very excited for the remaining nine butterflies to emerge!

In maths this week, we have looked at how to rotate a selection of shapes to make new shapes and pictures. Using just two right-angled triangles, the children made a square, a large triangle, and even a parallelogram! At home, why not cut a square or a rectangular piece of paper in half diagonally. How many different shapes can you and your child make?

We have had fantastic construction workers in our ROLA this week! Lots of the children have taken an interest in building a range of wonderful structures in our indoor construction area, so we decided to go big and outdoors using large foam bricks, and of course hard hats. The children worked together and showed excellent perseverance to build strong, sturdy walls, before taking great pleasure in knocking them down once they had finished!

The children have also enjoyed perfecting their running and balancing skills in preparation for Sports Day on Tuesday 5th July. We hope to see you at Range High School at 9:30am, and will take lots of photographs for those who are unable to attend. The children have been so supportive to one another by cheering each other on. Go team!

On Thursday, Reception began their transition into Year 1 by spending some time exploring their new classrooms and getting to know their new teachers. Each reception class received their last golden ticket for excellent behaviour and respectfulness in Year 1, which brings our Golden Ticket total number to 30! We look forward to planning our celebration with the children and hearing all of their wonderful ideas as to how we can celebrate!

Next week, we will begin to explore our new topic ‘Under the Sea’ by looking at the brilliant tale of ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson.

Enjoy the weekend everyone! The Reception Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
